Maria Doucettperry is Co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of RARE Multifamily Enterprises LLC (RARE). Maria draws on experience accumulated during a 20-year legal career that ultimately expanded to include civil rights work and work as a higher education professional.
Seeking a way to combine her professional interests with her passion for real estate, Maria envisioned a company where real estate investing could be used as a tool to build more equitable communities-communities that are structured with both the investor, and the residents in mind. With this vision as her guide, Maria joined with friend and colleague Kelli Gallimore to establish a real estate syndication company that would do more than unite funds to purchase property and yield a profit. The pair envisioned instead a company that could unify purposes to create homes and produce generational wealth. Or, in short, a company that would take Real Actions engendering Responsible Equity.
Maria focuses on strategic brand initiatives that add value to multifamily communities, transforming apartments into homes while at the same time providing unmatched value to RARE’s investors. Through educational forums and outreach, she hopes to develop a new generation of real estate investors who hail from non-traditional investor pools and who more closely reflect the gender and ethnic characteristics of the families who reside in the communities that make up RARE’s real estate portfolio.
Maria’s experience and market knowledge, creative, personalized approach, and strategic planning skills bring a unique and valuable perspective to the multifamily space. Maria serves investors with great devotion, leveraging her experience, knowledge, and competence to genuinely guide them in sealing the best deal while at the same time making a positive impact.
Kelli Gallimore is Co-Founder and Chief Acquisitions Officer of RARE Multifamily Enterprises LLC (RARE). Kelli graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Degree in Criminal Justice and Business Administration. She received her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law. Kelli has worked in civil rights investigation and practiced in various areas of law, including bankruptcy, criminal and family law. Kelli continues to work as a criminal lawyer in Northern Nevada.
Kelli has a passion for community engagement and currently serves as treasurer of the Reno-Sparks National Association for the Advance of Colored People (NAACP), and is the Board President for Faith in Action Nevada (FIANV). Kelli’s desire to promote social justice and equality, and advocate for underrepresented populations contributed to her interest in co-founding RARE.
Real estate has always been of interest to Kelli. Kelli loves to travel and she assumed that she would purchase single-family residences in a few of her favorite places. She imagined that when she wasn’t occupying those residences, she would rent them out to others. However, her vision became bigger when her business partner, Maria Doucettperry, approached her with a life-changing commercial real estate education opportunity, and a bolder vessel to give back. As the ever-so cliché saying goes: The rest is history!
Kelli is enthused to put her legal background to use in the space of commercial real estate acquisition. Kelli focuses on deal sourcing and underwriting, and providing value to investors by creating a vehicle for optimizing investor returns. Kelli aims to develop long-term partnerships for growth and future collaboration.
In addition to establishing value for business partners, Kelli envisions RARE establishing value for the community at large. Kelli believes that it is imperative to share knowledge and expertise with her community, and to give back as much as possible, and as frequently as possible. Kelli is excited to create and facilitate trainings on investment and wealth building strategies, and provide mentorship and support.
Kelli is blessed with her wonderful husband, Vaughn, and two sons, Boston and Aston. She is grateful for the love and support of her family and friends.
There is a secret and nobody is telling. That’s what led to us asking the questions that served as the basis for the establishment of RARE. For decades we’ve been told two things: 1) Education is key, and 2) The best way to secure your future is through traditional investment options. In short, we were told to get a good job with a 401K and great benefits, so that’s what we did.
Although there are benefits to this plan, it isn’t the end all be all. One of RARE’s founding partners, Maria, retired and immediately discovered that “the plan” wasn’t enough to support her family. What was it that we were missing? How is it that this seemed to work for some people, and yet other people (namely, Maria, person of color, disabled veteran, single mom) still needed to hustle to make ends meet? It was at this time that it became apparent that there are better options to change the way we work, save, and build generational wealth.
Maria researched the real estate market and reached out to her former colleague, Kelli, with a “new plan.” The plan was to learn and immerse ourselves into commercial real estate investment. Kelli had an entrepreneurial spirit and always had her eye on real estate, albeit from a single family residence investment perspective. Maria and Kelli soon learned that their presence in the commercial real estate space was RARE. There were few women, few veteran’s, and no African Americans in the first room they were in with similar-minded entrepreneurs.
Maria and Kelli knew that this was an opportunity; not just for themselves, but for their community. RARE Multifamily was birthed to empower underrepresented populations, provide education, and to create a path for creating generational wealth for minority populations. Maria and Kelli see value in partnering with a diverse multitude of people, as we believe the true way to change, growth and development is together.
